Rise Above: Thriving Beyond Domestic and Sexual Violence

Rise Above: Thriving Beyond Domestic and Sexual Violence is dedicated to providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed services to African and Sickle Cell communities who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, human trafficking or other forms of abuse.

Our comprehensive approach combines virtual and in-person support services, backed by a 24-hour hotline, text, and chat platform to ensure survivors can access assistance whenever they need it. We serve as a trusted bridge between survivors and critical community resources, coordinating services with shelters, healthcare providers, courts, victim service agencies, social service organizations, and law enforcement.

The program prioritizes meeting survivors’ immediate and long-term needs by providing advocacy, safety planning, transportation assistance, emergency food and clothing, temporary housing support, healthcare navigation, legal referrals, and emotional support. By reducing barriers to services, we help survivors focus on healing, recovery, and rebuilding their lives with dignity and confidence.

Rise Above will create a lasting impact by expanding access to culturally specific services, strengthening community partnerships, and improving the quality and sustainability of support available to African and Sickle Cell communities. Through direct services, education, advocacy, and systems collaboration, the project will help create safer communities, empower survivors, and reduce the long-term effects of violence on vulnerable populations.

By addressing both immediate crises and the underlying barriers that prevent survivors from accessing support, Rise Above is committed to fostering safety, resilience, healing, and long-term well-being for those we serve.
